Why? I know so many people probably wonder why I have the nerve to speak out against secret societies/greek organizations and I’m not apart of one. The truth is, the research that members urge you to do before you join, I did that. Countless hours. I found a document in 8th grade titled “Can You Be Christian & Greek?” – I found testimony after testimony with biblical evidence that ultimately gave me the answer I was hoping I wouldn’t find. Knowing I would not be able to in college, I went on to join a junior auxiliary in my teen years that mimiced a sorority; delta G.E.M.S. (Growing and Empowering Myself Successfully). I was influenced by the women who lead this college preparatory and community service driven organization. I participated and was very active all 4 years of high school.
Five years later, while in my last semester of undergrad, I received an invitation to be apart of a prestigious organization for students with exceptional leadership and academic records: omicron delta kappa (odk). In order to be a member, we would need to pay dues and participate in an initiation ceremony or induction. I accepted the invitation. This organization was a leadership honor society that promised many things: lifetime membership and connection with over 300,000 living members, a subscription to a magazine, scholarships, awards, further leadership opportunities, internships, and discounts at many places for current members. I didn’t use any of these things and ignored almost if not all of the emails. I left my membership in college. If I could be completely honest, the only reason I accepted the invitation was because I’d be recognized at the university’s Honors Day, it would “look good” on my resumé, and lastly because the key pendant added a nice touch to my graduation outfit. How shallow.
In 2018 after rededicating my life to Christ, I had prior thoughts about the commitment I made. It wasn’t something I pondered long, but I can say the Holy Spirit brought it back to my remembrance. After becoming lukewarm again in late 2019, it was a thought that I never readdressed. It wasn’t until a spiritual fast in 2024, (abstaining from food for a certain period time, denying my flesh, in preparation to hear the voice of God), that the Holy Spirit began to give me new revelation as well as bring things back to my remembrance regarding this honor society. The first thing that made me gasp was that the organization called the induction ceremony an initiation ritual.
Let’s set the scene! At the front of the room is a table adorned with a table cloth that has the organization’s emblem, five candles that represent leadership values upheld by the members, the omicron delta kappa key pendant/laurel crowned circle, the society’s flower (the blue delphinium), and the book where we would sign our name once it was called – sealing our membership. Plain and simple, this table was an altar (a place where sacrifices were offered to a deity).
White candles – In alternative spiritual practices, white candles are often associated with peace, clarity, new beginnings, purity and spiritual connection – but who were we connecting to spiritually? White candles are also commonly used in religious ceremonies such as baptisms, memorial services, meditation and..rituals.
Laurel crowned circle – symbolizes union forever and equality. The laurel crowned circle stands for success, but is often attributed to the greek deity Apollo. It’s said in an ancient myth that Apollo mocked Cupid/Eros, greek god of love, so Cupid shot Apollo with an arrow and he became interested in Daphne who rejected his advances. Daphne prayed to escape Apollo and as a result she was transformed into a ‘laurel’ tree. As a result, Apollo vowed to honor Daphne, wearing laurel leaves as a crown, declaring laurel leaves would be used to make crowns for royalty and champions. The laurel wreath became a symbol of achievement, victory, and status in Ancient Greece and was later adopted by the Romans.
Blue delphinium – the organizations flower signifies dignity and grace. Ancient greeks believed that delphiniums had ‘magical’ properties..not a coincidence.
With the Holy Spirit’s guidance, he began to show me how my agreement to serve in this organization resembled a marriage in the spirit realm. When one gets married, they walk down the aisle, say vows, and a covenant is made between man, woman, and God (because he is the one who first governed marriage on Earth). A vow is a solemn promise made to God or by a pagan to his deity. When I became a member of odk, I participated in a rite (manner of performing divine or solemn service as established by law, precept, custom, formal act of religion or solemn duty) – I was reminded that we had to file into the room in a particular way in order to carry out the ceremony correctly – intentionality.
Whenever you make a covenant at an altar that is not serviced by the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords, no matter how much good the organization has done in man’s eyes, it is considered evil in the sight of the Lord.
Uncovering odk’s history, it was revealed that almost every person who founded this organization was part of another greek organization prior to forming this one. The organization that garnered my attention was phi beta kappa (pbk). It was founded in December 1776 on the campus of William and Mary College in Williamsburg, VA. It is the oldest academic honor society/fraternity in the United States. It’s no secret that phi beta kappa was heavily influenced by Freemasonry, or as some call it ‘The Craft’. The founder of pbk, John Heath, was not a freemason, however one of the other joining founders, Thomas Smith, belonged to the local masonic lodge before joining Heath as one of the five phi beta kappa members. During the next year, nine of the other members of pbk went on to join the masonic lodge. As many as 12 of the first 50 members were Masons, and it’s possible they borrowed ideas for their handclasp, sign, and other rituals from the masonic order.
If said members of omicron delta kappa were also prior members of phi beta kappa, more than likely omicron delta kappa borrowed ideas from the first greek fraternity – who borrowed its ideals from freemasonry.
Do you see where this is going?
All of this is a clever way that Satan has disguised himself as an angel of light so that people may worship him in ignorance. When the omicron delta kappa invocation is done, it doesn’t end in Jesus name, which means we were praying to whatever deity the founders honored. In 2 Corinthians 6:14 AMP it states,
“Do not be unequally bound together with unbelievers [do not make mismatched alliances with them, inconsistent with your faith]. For what partnership can righteousness have with lawlessness? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness?”
By taking the pledge and solemn promise to uphold the organizations ideals, I yoked myself with other members as well as the organization with my words. The Word of God also states in Matthew 12: 36-37,
36 But I tell you, on the day of judgment people will have to give an accounting for every careless or useless word they speak. 37 For by your words [reflecting your spiritual condition] you will be justified and acquitted of the guilt of sin; and by your words [rejecting Me] you will be condemned and sentenced.”
I don’t want to be condemned for a vow that I made in ignorance, to an organization founded upon freemason roots who honors another deity in the name of scholarship and service. Lastly, the Bible tells us that death and life are in the power of the tongue and those that love it and indulge it will eat its fruit and bear the consequences of their words. During the ritual the third voice states,
“We keep climbing higher and higher. Remember death comes apace and that the longest span of human life is too short for the completion of tasks that lie ready for our hands.”
This declaration is coming into agreement with premature death, stating that even living the longest life is not enough to fulfill our purpose or complete the task that God has for us. I come out of agreement with that statement in Jesus name. When we are submitted to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and aligned with his will, he gives us the the supernatural ability to accomplish the things that we cannot do in our natural strength. I do not receive that death comes apace, swiftly, quickly or with haste. I rebuke the spirit of death in Jesus name and declare that we have life more abundantly through Christ Jesus!
Coming to a close, I said all of this to say that even I was deceived. The Lord showed me I didn’t have the measure of boldness that I was supposed to have because I was connected to a greek society myself, not even realizing it’s all the same. Process or no process. Hazing or no hazing. Social fraternity, business fraternity, christian sorority/fraternity, etc. If it’s greek lettered, it’s not of God. Freemasonry is not of God. Order of the Eastern Star is not of God. No amount of good works will ever be able to undo the origin of these groups that are riddled with demonic propaganda. What is the enemy using to accuse you before the courts of Heaven?
January 23, 2024 marked a new beginning as my name was removed from the membership of omicron delta kappa honor society. It may not seem like much to someone else, but any step in obedience to God is major. Blueprint or none, whenever God says move we must be ready.
If you are reading this and you know someone who is apart of a secret society, pray that their spiritual eyes and ears be opened to what God is doing in his children at this very moment. If you are reading this and you resonate because this is you, know that God loves you. He is the way, the truth, and the life. No man can come to the Father but by Him. No organization will get us into Heaven, but idolatry of any kind can keep us out.

God I thank you for who you are! You are consistent, you are just, and you continue to help us get through when we feel like we can’t go on! God you hold us up in your right hand. You place a hedge of protection around us. You show us your mercy when we don’t deserve it. When we turned to worship idols, even unknowingly God, you continued to spare us. When we provoked you to anger, God you were merciful toward us. We thank you God. I pray that whoever is reading this that your spirit comes upon them like never before, that they have the burning desire to serve you in spirit and in truth. No lukewarmness Father God. Let us turn away from everything that is not like you God! We dedicate our mind, our will, and our emotion back to you God. You are our peace God. You give us peace that surpasses all understanding. God I thank you that we do not have a spirit of fear, but of power, love and a sound mind. I thank you that because we have a healthy fear of you, we can walk in obedience God. We can serve you fully. We can be unashamed of our walk with you. We can lift our hands and sing your praises in freedom. God we thank you for your revelation. We thank you that as we journey deeper in you, you continue to reveal yourself to us. We thank you that you continue to redeem us. God I even thank you for the people that are between two opinions right now – God I pray that they will consider spending eternity with you God, that they will choose to serve you God and you alone. You are more than enough for us God. We thank you for sacrificing your life for us God. We thank you for Jesus God! We don’t have to subject ourselves to punishment because Jesus was punished for us God – to the point of death so we thank you for his ability to see it through until the end JUST FOR US! God I pray that you would break double-mindedness off of your people. I pray that they will trust you with all of their heart and lean not to their own understanding. God I thank you for making their path straight! Where they are confused Father God, make it plain for them. Make it clear, God! I bind and rebuke any attack of the enemy from their decision to walk in boldness. I thank you for shutting the mouth of the accusers on their behalf. I thank you that they will began to testify and as they do, the chains will continue to fall off, oh God. You are worthy to be praised, you are worthy to be exalted. I thank you God, that even as they read this, they will begin to feel how much you love and care for them. Let them see that brothers, sisters, connections, and status can all be found in you. Our worth is found in Christ Jesus. You are our cornerstone, Father God, and when we build our foundation on you we are unshakeable. We are immovable. God we thank you for empowering us to have the hard conversations, to make the hard decisions, and to be bold in you! We will not be silent God, we will speak up for your kingdom, we will warn our brothers and sisters, we will take up our crosses oh God. The time is drawing near oh God, let us be found doing what you’ve called us to do & walking in obedience God. We love you. We thank you. It’s in your son Jesus name that we pray, AMEN.
